Poetic Skills Required for the Job

Are you a creative thinking person, or a follower?  If you’re creative, then poetry is the vocation suited for you.

Can you use language with power to love, or do you copy with shame?  Use language not merely to communicate, but to move and inspire your readers.

Can you express your own ideas, or do you believe everybody else?  If you have something in your mind, put your finger on it and bring it to life through poetry.

Can you walk through walls, or do you quit at the first obstacle?  The poet in you deserves a chance to blossom beyond the limits of simply studying for exams or surviving until payday.

Can you use simile like a surgeon uses a knife?  If you can, then use your poetry to cut to the heart and reveal the creative womb within you.

Are you a victim of mass education and mass media, or do you create your own poetic culture?

Nature Skills Required for the Job

Do you hide when a challenge comes, or face it with courage?  The poet senses injustice and speaks out rather than quietly surrendering with, “There’s nothing I can do.”

Do you lower your eyes when the world shakes, or reach out and help?  Are you willing to be the voice of endangered animals and speak out against environmental crime?

Will you climb the rocky hill to reveal your strength, or sit in the valley and drown in the flood?

Do you take the easy path and follow the routine, or do you brave the thunder and reach your peak?

Do you prefer to watch the flight of birds upon a warm mountain breeze, or would you rather use your remote control to select nature shows on television?

Urban Skills Required for the Job

Will you sit along the street and beg for metaphorical food in your bowl, or proclaim your right to walk with pride?

Will you knock down the barriers the boss builds around you, or just sit in your silent corner and hope for a sunny day?  The poet does not wait; the poet CREATES the sunny day.

Will you reach your potential, or meekly hide behind your fears?  The poet transforms fear into dust, and sweeps it away.

Do you spend more time collecting money in your pocket, or developing friendship in your heart?

Are excuses the only thing you can create, or do you have the power to shape your world?
